59. Surgit par conséquent le cinquante-neuvième indice, le surnuméraire, l’excédentaire – le sexuel: les corps sont sexués. Il n’y a pas de corps unisexe comme on le dit aujourd’hui de certains vêtements. Un corps est au contraire de part en part aussi un sexe: aussi des seins, une verge, une vulve, des testicules, des ovaires, des caractéristiques osseuses, morphologiques, physiologiques, un type de chromosome. Le corps est sexué par essence. Cette essence se détermine comme l’essence d’un rapport à l’autre essence. Le corps se détermine ainsi comme essentiellement rapport, ou en rapport. Le corps se rapporte au corps de l’autre sexe. Dans ce rapport, il y va de sa corporéité en tant qu’elle touche par le sexe à sa limite: elle jouit, c’est-à-dire que le corps est secoué au dehors de lui-même. Chacune de ses zones, jouissant pour soi-même, émet au dehors le même éclat. Cela s’appelle un âme. Mais plus souvent cela reste pris dans le spasme, dans le sanglot ou dans le soupir. Le fini et l’infini se sont croisés, se sont échangés un instant. Chacun des sexes peut occuper la position du fini ou de l’infini.

59. Arises therefore the fifty-ninth index, the supernumerary, the excessive- the sexual: bodies are sexed. No body is unisex, as certain clothes are nowadays said to be. A body, on the contrary, is also a sex through and through: also breasts, a penis, vulva, testicles, ovaries; bony, morphological, physiological features, a type of chromosome. The body is sexed in essence. This essence is determined as the essence of a relation to the other essence. The body is thus determined in essence as a relation, or as in relation. The body is related to the body of the other sex. In this relation, its corporeality is involved insofar as it touches through sex on its limit: it delights [jouit], meaning that the body is shaken outside itself. Each of its zones, delighting for itself, emits the same light to the outside. This is called a soul. But mostly it stays caught in the spasm, the sob, or the sigh. Finite and infinite have intersected there, have crossed paths and exchanged places for an instant. Each of the sexes can occupy the position of the finite or the infinite.

59. Emerge di conseguenza il cinquantanovesimo indizio, quello soprannumerario, eccedente — quello sessuale: i corpi sono sessuati. Non c’è un corpo unisex come si dice oggi di certi vestiti. Al contrario un corpo è anche, da parte a parte, un sesso: è anche seni, verga, vulva, testicoli, ovaie, caratteristiche ossee, morfologiche, fisiologiche, un tipo di cromosoma. Il corpo è sessuato per essenza. Questa essenza si definisce come l’essenza di un rapporto con l’altra essenza. Il corpo si definisce così essenzialmente come rapporto, o in rapporto. Il corpo si rapporta al corpo dell’altro sesso. In questo rapporto, ne va della sua corporeità poiché attraverso il sesso tocca il proprio limite: gode, vale a dire che il corpo è scosso al di fuori di sé. Ciascuna delle sue zone, godendo per se stessa, trasmette fuori il medesimo bagliore. Che si chiama anima. Ma che più spesso resta preso nello spasmo, nel singhiozzo o nel sospiro. Il finito e l’infinito si sono incrociati, si sono scambiati un istante. Ciascuno dei sessi può occupare la posizione del finito o dell’infinito.
