48. Précision du corps: c’est ici, nulle part ailleurs. C’est au bout du gros orteil droit, c’est à la base du sternum, c’est au mamelon du sein, c’est à droite, à gauche, en haut, en bas, en profondeur ou en surface, c’est diffus ou ponctuel. C’est douleur ou plaisir, ou bien c’est simple transmission mécanique comme celle des touches du clavier à la pulpe de mes doigts. Même ce qui est décrit d’une sensation quelconque comme diffus observe la précision du « diffus », qui irradie chaque fois d’une manière bien précise. La précision de l’esprit est mathématique, celle de l’âme est physique: elle s’expose en grammes et en millimètres, en faction d’éjection et en vitesse de sédimentation, en coefficient respiratoire. L’anatomie n’a rien de réducteur, contrairement à ce que prétendent les spiritualistes: c’est au contraire l’extrême précision de l’âme.

48. The body is precision: it is here, nowhere else. It’s at the tip of the right big toe, it’s at the base of the sternum, it’s in the nipple of the breast, it’s on the right, the left, above, below, deep or on the surface, diffuse or punctual. It is pain or pleasure, or just a simple mechanical transmission, like that of keys on a keyboard under the pads of my fingers. Even what’s described as diffuse in one or another sensation keeps the precision of the “diffuse,” which irradiates each time in a very precise way. The spirit’s precision is mathematical; the soul’s is physical: it’s exposed in grams and millimeters, in a fraction of ejection and with the speed of sedimentation, in a respiratory coefficient. There’s nothing reductive about anatomy, contrary to the claims of spiritualists, indeed it’s the soul’s extreme precision.

È sulla punta dell’alluce destro, è alla base dello sterno, è al capezzolo del seno, è a destra, a sinistra, in alto, in basso, in profondità o in superficie, è diffuso o puntuale. È dolore o piacere, oppure è semplice trasmissione meccanica come quella dai tasti del pianoforte al polpastrello delle mie dita. Anche ciò che è descritto da una qualunque sensazione come diffuso osserva la precisione del “diffuso”, che irradia ogni volta in una maniera ben precisa. La precisione dello spirito è matematica, quella dell’anima è fisica: essa si espone in grammi e millimetri, in turni di eiezione e velocità di sedimentazione, in coefficiente respiratorio. L’anatomia non ha niente di riduttivo, contrariamente a quel che pretendono gli spiritualisti: al contrario, è l’estrema precisione dell’anima.
